Re: Route Numbers and Destinations
Post: The buses can use color coding as well to distinguish their routes. Right now both Vajra and the BIAL buses look same (RED volvos). Although BIAL is displayed properly, it would be easier to spot a bus even from a distance if it's colored differently. Having the route maps of different buses at each bus stop (where there is a shelter or on a pole between transparent plastic plates) is a useful technique and is practised heavily in developed countries. They even have timings when the buses are expected and this gives an indication of frequency as well. Sticking to the timings might be a challenge in Bangalore, but the frequency is aways useful. The ideas of HOHO, BIG10 and Vajra are very effective, but what stops people from using them is the last mile connectivity. If the place of work or residence is not near a bus stop, they need to walk quite a distance and this discourages many people. The solution lies in increasing the frequency of HOHO, BIG10 & Vajra and using the blue buses as feeders. Once BMTC buses start plying all streets of Bangalore, people are bound to notice and after they use the service first time, the comfort is bound to bring them back.
