HOHO bus service is a very good concept. But like some one suggested I think it needs more adverstisement. (1)Which ever road has the HOHO service, entry of private vehicles to those roads should be restricted. Residents of those roads can be given special passes for their private vehicles. If this rule is followed it will force people to use the HOHO service without choice. (2)Start some type of bicycle ralley to popularize the use of bicycles. But many people suggest we should have dedicated bicycle lanes before any such exercise. I feel such a thing is not possible in the present road conditions, I think if majority of the population starts using bicycles only then the governament will be convinced to provide didicated bicycle lines. So before asking the governament for dedicated bicycle lines I think we shoudl show the governament that there are lot of people interested to use bicycles. (3) Arrange for a campaign for a month long which will show the importance of using public transport and bicycles, car pooling etc. Celebrities can be used extensively for such campaigns.

The major problem faced with public transport is connectivity. If we have a transport system that offers an alomost equivalent comfort as a two-wheler of a four-wheeler, then I'm sure most of the citizens will leave their cars and bikes back home. One option is to have mini-buses operating on feeder routes at an interval of 5-10 minutes. These buses can operate point-to-point service of not more than 5 kms. The buses can drop off passengers at the nearest bus terminal of a particular area such as Domlur, Jeevan Bima Nagar, Jaynagar etc. Passengers can then take the regular busese to their resoective destinations. This way we can avoid large buses operating on over-congested roads. This system can be tried in the following route. Malleshpalya - Jeevan Bima Nagar Mini-buses can operate between the two points at a frequency of 5-10 minutes. Passengers can get off at Jeevan Bima Nagar Bus terminus and take the regular buses for their destinations. The existing buses operating to Malleshpalya can be diverted to Bima Nagar. Also a ring route can be operated from BEML Main gate covering GM Palya, Malleshpalya, Kaggadaspura and CV Raman Nagar. A similar ring route can be operated from BEML Main gate, GM Palya, Malleshpalya, Vignan Nagar, Basavanagar, HAL Police Station and Vimanapura. Another service can be started between HAL Old Airport to junction of Old Madras Road through Suranjan Das Road. This will discourage the existing share autos and other vehicles operating illegally. This can be replicated in other parts of Bangalore.

We can think of luring people to use public transport instead of making public transport compulsory. Railways can provide effective public transport. Bengaluru has railway lines in almost all the directions. It is feasible to ply local trains on these lines. The outbound trains terminus can be at outer stations, example: towards Hindupur from Yelahanka, towards Jolarpaet from Whitefield, towards Mysore from Kengeri, towards Tumkur some distance after Yeshwanthpur. The local trains will also be better connectivity to the outer terminus. This will be a win-win situation for the government and the public. By using local trains the travel time for the public to commute, especially to office, decreases. Also while in train a person can concentrate on his work using communication networks with laptops, mobile phones etc. The number of vehicles plying on Bangalore roads will get minimized which in turn brings down traffic jams, pollution, traffic policing, accidents, expenditure on road network. Public save on time and transportation cost, get cleaner air and safety on roads. The government will benefit from the huge savings on expenditure for road network like construction of flyovers, underpasses, road expansion and new roads. This huge savings can be used for improvement of underdeveloped places which in-turn will address the migration of people to developed places. This chain can go on and on solving many problem faced by the government and the society.
